    The Yeelirrie Valley Uranium Project is located in the north of the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, some 650 kilometres to the northeast of Perth, and is located largely within the Shire of Wiluna. The project surrounds BHP-Billiton's Yeelirrie uranium project, which is currently in the final stages of its Feasibility Study and is proceeding through the approvals process in Western Australia.

    The future of mining giant BHP Billiton’s Nickel West arm appears solid as the company focused on extending its current operating life from 2023 to 2032, and sinks cash into maintaining its asset integrity. BHP, which has unsuccessfully tried to sell its nickel businesses, has invested A$2-million a month for the last ten months into maintenance and repairs at Nickel West. The spending will continue for the remainder of 2016 and 2017, said Nickel West asset president Eduard Haegel on Thursday.

  • Cameco’s Yeelirrie project faces environmental hurdle 2016-08-04
    The Western Australia (WA) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that Cameco’s Yeelirrie uranium project does not meet one of nine key environmental factors examined. Cameco is proposing to mine up to 7 500 t/y of uranium oxide concentrate from the Yeelirrie deposit, which is located about 420 km north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 70 km south west of Wiluna.
  • Cameco waits for higher uranium prices to start production at Aus projects 2015-10-28
    Canadian company Cameco will not bring its Australian uranium projects into production until prices improve. Speaking at a Committee for Economic Development of Australia briefing on Wednesday, Cameco Australia MD Brian Reilly noted that, while significant work had been done at both the Kintyre and Yeelirrie projects, Cameco was awaiting an upturn in uranium prices to bring the projects into production.
