Whim Creek Information

  • Financial 2015-05-26
A range of financing options to fund the construction capital cost of the Project have been, and continue to be, evaluated as market conditions permit.
  • Mining 2015-05-26
The proposed open pit mining operations at Mons Cupri and Whim Creek will be simple cutbacks of the existing conventional open pits, with a targeted annual production rate of up to 650,000tpa. Previous oxide mining has exposed copper-zinc (lead) sulphides in the base of the existing open pits providing rapid ore access. Excellent geotechnical stability and large ore thicknesses have resulted in relatively low striping ratios.
  • Environmental 2015-05-26
The DFS Project design has resulted in a considerably reduced footprint size targeting an overall lower environmental impact than previous studies. All Potentially Acid-Forming (PAF) material is to be returned underground as fill with a significant quantity of the tailings returned underground as paste. The remaining volume of tailings will be deposited into a compact tailings storage facility as either paste or via a dry tailings disposal system. All flora/fauna studies are complete with no issues of significant concern identified.
  • Equipment and Infrastructure 2015-05-26
The key elements of the Project include:61km access road from the sealed Port Hedland to Marble Bar Hwy, Processing facility, Paste plant, Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), Portal and decline, Mine camp and administration buildings, Diesel generator power station, Water bore fields, Sealed airstrip suitable for 100 seat jets
  • General 2015-05-10
Venturex Resources Limited have completed a feasibility study into the manner in which the copper project at Whim Creek in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia should proceed. The production targets for the Whim Creek Mine have been set at around 40,000 tonnes of zinc and 20,000 tonnes of copper annually, together with the recovery of lead, silver and gold. These targets are expected to be achieved from the mining of the Whim Creek and Mons Cupri open pits that are expected to produce up to 650,000 tonnes of ore a year. Previous oxide mining undertaken at the site has allowed rapid ore access to exposed lead sulphides, zinc and copper ore bodies.

The MoU, which established the framework for the FJVA, was subject to satisfactory completion of due diligence by both parties over the next two months. Following completion of the due diligence, Venturex and Macarthur would renegotiate the final terms of the joint venture to reflect comparable transactions.
