Nolans Information

  • General 2015-05-10
The cornerstone asset to the Project is the Nolans Bore rare earths-phosphate-uranium deposit, discovered in 1995. Nolans Bore is located in Australia's Northern Territory, about 135 kilometres north-north-west of Alice Springs and 10 kilometres west of the Stuart Highway near Aileron Roadhouse. Nolans Bore is one of the world's largest and most intensively explored rare earths deposits. The most abundant rare earth-bearing minerals at Nolans Bore are fluorapatite and allanite. The deposit has a highly desirable rare earths mix, and contains 47 million tonnes of Mineral Resources at an average grade of 2.6% rare earth oxides (REO). Over 50% of these Mineral Resources have been converted to Ore Reserves. These Ore Reserves are sufficient to support mining and processing operations for 22 years.

Comprehensive work programmes aimed at commercialising ASX-listed rare earths company Arafura Resources’ 100%-owned Nolans rare earths project, in Australia’s Northern Territory, have identified several improvements to the existing project structure that will deliver a more competitive and efficient project with greater capacity to withstand cyclical downturns in rare earth prices. These studies, targeting preferred phosphate-rich material types in the projects resource, would deliver an optimal plant feed and throughput that resulted in an adjustment to the planned yearly rare earths output to 14 000 t of total rare earth oxides over the more than 20-year operational life of the project.

  • Thor Mining Ltd to start new drilling campaign to extend Molyhill tungsten 2016-08-16

Thor Mining (ASX:THR, LON:THR) has revealed a new drill campaign close to its existing Molyhil tungsten deposit in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The 50-hole campaign is designed to confirm the close proximity of additional tungsten mineralisation within a six kilometre radius of the Molyhill tungsten deposit, targeting magnetic anomalies with similar characteristics to Molyhill.

The key objective, Thor said, is to find additional ore sources that would extend the life of the mine and reduce costs.

In all, the cost of the program is estimated at less than A$100,000.

    Mick Billing, chairman, commented:

"Improvements in the APT [tungsten] price combined with renewed interest in the sector leads us to believe that now is the ideal time to test these exciting targets, as we move to the next phase of work at Molyhil with renewed vigour.

"Exploration of adjacent known deposits is a sound and cost effective exploration tactic and this initial test of these Molyhil lookalike targets will hopefully lead to a significant increase in the project's current known mining inventory."
