Wodgina Data

Wodgina Information

  • Mining 2015-05-28
The Wodgina mine produces a quality low-alumina fines-only product, which is trucked to the nearby multi-user Utah Point port at Port Hedland for export.
  • Exploration 2015-05-28
Wodgina remains a highly prospective exploration target for Atlas. In addition, Atlas is exploring applying beneficiation opportunities at Wodgina. Atlas is confident that these initiatives have an excellent likelihood of increasing the current resource portfolio.
  • Equipment and Infrastructure 2015-05-28
Having this infrastructure in place, in such close proximity to the newly discovered DSO resources, saved Atlas tens of millions of dollars in capital expenditure at the outset. Atlas is currently in the process of expanding its operations at Wodgina to a targeted 5.5Mtpa through facilitating a new crushing a screening facility for GAM, thus giving Atlas 100% access to existing facilities from April 2012 onwards.
  • Project Development 2015-05-28
The decision to fast-track Wodgina was facilitated by a landmark agreement between Atlas and Talison (now Global Advanced Minerals or GAM) granting the Company access to the unused tantalum mine infrastructure following GAMs Talison's decision to place the operation into care and maintenance. This agreement, announced in February 2009, provided access to a crushing and screening plant capable of processing up to 6 million tonnes of iron ore per year, as well as a 10MW gas-fired power plant, a high-quality 300-person accommodation camp and associated mine administration facilities.
  • Geology 2015-05-28
Atlas DSO deposits and exploration prospects at Wodgina are located within the Wodgina Greenstone Belt, centred on Talisons Wodgina Tantalum mine - the worlds largest single tantalum resource. Bedded iron enrichment is situated along the range of hills that mark the Wodgina anticline. Iron ore is commonly outcropping, with enrichment depths in excess of 60m.
  • General 2015-05-28
The Wodgina DSO Project is located approximately 100km south of Port Hedland on the Great Northern Highway. Atlas acquired 100% of the iron ore rights to the project area from Talison Minerals Pty Ltd, now Global Advanced Metals (GAM) in February 2008. This exciting project became the main focus of Atlas exploration efforts from the moment the first hole was drilled in late 2008 to the commissioning of the Wodgina DSO mine in July 2010, and the operation is now an integral part of Atlas expansion plans.
