(MRN), located in Trombetas, Par‚‚‚¡ state, is one of the largest bauxite operations in the world, with nominal production capacity of 18 million metric tons per year. The company‚‚‚‚’s four open-pit mines produce high-quality bauxite. Ore beneficiation facilities are linked by railroad to Rio Trombetas Port; the entire route is operated by MRN.

    Peruvian miner Minsur said emergency repairs at its Pitinga tin mine in Brazil would lower that unit's capacity by 33% over the next nine to 12 months.     Junior Acacia Coal has signed an agreement with the vendors of Coalvent to acquire a 74% interest in the Riversdale anthracite colliery, in South Africa. The project is currently held by mining major Rio Tinto, through Riversdale Holdings, and Coalvent has agreed to acquire it from Rio and then sell it on to Acacia.
