  • Montero Evaluates Extensive Off-Shore Phosphate Deposits in South Africa 2015-12-01

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 1, 2015) - Montero Mining and Exploration Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:MON) ("Montero") has completed an initial review of geological data relating to extensive off-shore sedimentary phosphate deposits within the Greenflash Project area in South Africa. The Greenflash Project is the second phosphate asset being advanced with funding partner Ovation Capital ("Ovation") in South Africa. Ovation has committed to expenditures of roughly CDN $2.7 million to acquire a 10% interest in Montero's Duyker Eiland project. At the Greenflash Project, Ovation has agreed to co-fund due diligence with Montero, where, upon receiving a positive review, may elect to provide Montero 100% of the funding to outline a resource for equity participation in the project (see press release September 10, 2015). The Greenflash Project could potentially provide additional feedstock to a Fertilizer Plant envisaged to be developed in Saldanha Bay by Montero and Ovation.

  • Phosphate project to get under way 2015-10-16
The prefeasibility study at mineral exploration and development company Montero Mining and Exploration’s phosphate project, in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape, is expected to start soon, with the goal of completion in 2016, after which, if positive, the project will go into a bankable feasibility study, Montero president and CEO Dr Tony Harwood tells Mining Weekly. Earlier this year Montero entered into an agreement with niche investment firm Ovation Capital to fund the phosphate project from prefeasibility study through to bankable feasibility study, says Harwood, adding that the studies will be towards the potential establishment of a rock phosphate openpit mine.

Tormin Information

  • General 2015-05-10
The prospect is a small beach deposit located on the rugged west coast of South Africa, approx 400km north of Cape Town. The deposit is situated approx 14km north of the Olifants River and south of the Anglo Base Metals‚’ Namakwa Sands operation at Brand se Baai (Figure 3). The heavy mineral deposits have accumulated along the ~12km long, 100m wide beach, to a maximum depth of 12m, and are still being supplemented through erosion of a heavy mineral enriched, 25m thick paleo-beach terrace situated 35m above current sea level. The predominant heavy mineral is garnet with ilmenite, pyroxene, zircon, rutile, and leucoxene contained in the heavy mineral assemblage. As the heavy mineral placer deposits overlie diamond bearing gravel beds a feasibility study into mining the beach deposits and extracting both diamonds and heavy minerals was undertaken by Trans Hex Operations (Pty) Ltd (THG), a South African diamond producer in 1992. In 2002 the Company signed an agreement with THG that allows the Company to apply for a mineral sands Prospecting Permit. Under this agreement THG agreed to support the Company‚’s application for the Permit and in turn THG will retain the rights to any diamond production from the area. Preliminary assessment based on the THG resource estimate indicates a resource that would yield a high quality (ceramic grade) zircon and high Ti product. A feasibility study on the Tormin project has been completed by Bateman Africa in June, 2005 based on an annual production of 40,000 tonnes per annum of zircon and 12,000 tonnes per annum of HiTi product, over a 3 to 5 year period. The feasibility study is currently undergoing independent technical review.
