    The Olympic Dam mine is owned by BHP Billiton, the mine produces copper, uranium, silver and gold.The mine is located approximately 16 kilometres from Roxby Downs.Olympic Dam is a multi-mineral ore body containing uranium oxide, copper, gold and silver. Olympic Dam is Australia's largest underground mine. BHP Billiton is undertaking a feasibility study into the expansion of Olympic Dam in South Australia, which includes the examination of a broad range of alternatives. If the expansion proceeds, it is likely to see the advent of open pit operations in addition to the existing underground mine. An Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared for the Australian, South Australian and Northern Territory Governments. A 4 year prestrip would create a waste stockpile 6kmx6km and 130m high. 350ktpa underground or 500ktpa open-pit

    Operations at the Olympic Dam copper, gold and uranium mine, in South Australia, remained on care and maintenance, mining giant BHP Billiton said. Operations were suspended and the site de-mobilised following a severe storm in South Australia, which resulted in state-wide power outages.

    Mining major BHP Billiton is on track to exceed its 2016 financial year copper production target of 200 000 t at the Olympic Dam mine, in South Australia. Asset president Jacqui McGill told the American Chamber of Commerce on Friday that copper production during the December quarter had increased by 37%, compared with the previous corresponding period, to a record 112 000 t.
