  • Train ban costs Drummond up to 5 Mt of Colombian exports 2015-12-06
    Drummond Co, one of Colombia's largest coal miners, lost between 4.5-million and 5-million tonnes of exports this year because of a ban on nighttime train transport, company president Jose Miguel Linares said Friday. The nine-month-long restriction, lifted late last month by a tribunal in Cesar province, banned the Fenoco coal train from operating between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. after community complaints.

The coal from Drummond comes out of La Loma mine located in Cesar and by 2009 also from the El Descanso mine. It counts with a circular railway, discharging wagons and a mechanical coal stocker. Loading is done with barges which are loaded alongside a pier then shuttled to the mooring buoy systems (7 in total) where the coal is loaded unto vessels moored at about 4 to 6 NM from the coastline. Commercial Loading rate: 25000 mts per day for all type of vessels
