Peru smelter may process copper with high arsenic content â Kuczynski 2016-08-06Peru's centrist President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said in comments broadcast on Friday that the country's shuttered polymetallic smelter La Oroya could process copper concentrates with high levels of arsenic if reopened. Smelting so-called dirty copper concentrates at La Oroya might reduce costs for the nearby Chinese-owned Toromocho deposit, which produces concentrates with arsenic content that exceed limits for Chinese smelters.

General 2015-05-10Alpamarca-Rio Pallanga is a project property of Volcan, Peru's largest miner of silver, lead and zinc. This project has two major mines: Alpamarca, which is an open pit mine and Rio Pallanda, comprising an underground mine pit. The new Alpamarca Rio Pallanga Unit started operations during the second quarter of 2014. The Alpamarca Rio Pallanga Unit is located 4,700 meters above sea level in the Santa Barbara de Carhuacayan district, province of Yauli, Junin Region, 219 kilometers east of Lima. Alpamarca Rio Pallanga is a polymetallic deposit of lead, zinc, silver and copper veins. It consists of 2,100 hectares of concessions within an area of great geological potential. At a first stage, the Alpamarca deposit is currently mined through an open pit and its deepest areas will be subsequently mined on an underground basis. The Alpamarca concentrate plant has a nominal capacity of 2,000 TPD, and it is likely to be increased to 3,000 TPD in order to treat the ore coming from the Alpamarca open pit and the Rio Pallanga underground mine or from other Company units.
